Jazz / Funk/ Poms
SAS Jazz/Funk/ Poms classes provide an upbeat style of dance that involves learning exercises and routines to modern music. Our jazz/funk/poms classes are based around building strong jazz technique as well as flexibility, fitness and musical skills. Our teachers work to develop a strong foundation in this style by incorporating modern Funk and Musical Theatre elements into classes. Signature All Starz offers Jazz/ Funk/ Poms’ for 4-year-olds up to the advanced level.
Contemporary dance classes are offered at SAS from the age of 10 to the advanced level with students five years and over studying Lyrical technique. Lyrical/Contemporary dance is a modern and abstract style of dance that encourages students to explore their creativity, expression and freedom of movement. Students learn to explore different ways to move to music, and classes consist of both structured exercises and improvisation.
Tap dancing is a form of dancing where special shoes are worn with taps on the balls and heels of the feet. SAS offers a super fun introduction to tap class for 4-7 years and also a class for more experienced tap dancers. Students learn to tap in time to music and classes are great for improving coordination and musicality. It is also a lot of fun and a great excuse to make a lot of noise!
As part of the ATOD ballet curriculum, students are given the opportunity to explore National Character dancing and learn styles that have originated in various countries. Some examples of National styles studied in our syllabi include Italian, Hungarian & Russian.
Acro Dance is a combination of Acrobatic skills used by Acrobats and Gymnasts combined with the fluid movement of dance.
Dancers are a unique combination of Artist and Athlete. Dance is about bringing thoughts, feeling, and emotions to life, and acro dance is another method to express this. Dancers not only learn how to execute each acro movement with strength, flexibility and technique but also learn to perform each trick seamlessly through choreographed routines.
Students are regularly presented with opportunities to take part in extracurricular activities such as workshops, masterclasses with guest teachers, summer schools, auditions and conventions. These opportunities are offered to all children and are great for challenging, motivating and extending our students with their dance studies.
SAS Students are keen young performers that enjoy sharing their love of performing with others.
